Food Bio Science Building, Reading

Modus was engaged to provide partial refurbishment for the University of Reading’s Food Bio Science Building. Scope of works included dividing an existing staff welfare facility into two separate rooms to create a smaller, but refurbished staff rest area and a two-bed clinical ward research facility.

Staff welfare facility was fully redecorated with new floor finishes and new fitted kitchen/tea point, new lighting and modified power.

The new clinical room was finished with high quality materials to assist managing infection control. Air conditioning was installed to provide a controlled environment with medical quality wash room equipment. All designed to be easily cleaned to maintain a sterile environment.

The food bio science building was fully operational during the works, the building being used by academic staff and students. Adjacent areas were being used for administration and medical research. Works were carried out to cause minimal inconvenience and disruption. Noisy works were carried out outside of normal working hours, to minimise disruption.

We ensured that tools, materials and waste were transported to site prior to 9.00 am, to reduce risk of injury/inconvenience to other building users.
